I saw one of these today, which reminded me of their existance. They actually look fairly nice, especially in Copperhead Metallic (what I saw today).
The Borrego was an interesting, if poorly timed, choice for Kia in the US market. Body-on-frame SUVs weren’t exactly a big seller around this time.
The Borrego was styled by Peter Schreyer of Audi fame. A V8 engine was optional (a first for Kia), which pushed the towing capacity to 7,500 lbs. The interior was nice for a Kia at the time. Kia interiors certainly have come a long way since then. I do like the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
The Borrego was only sold in the US for the 2009 model year. I believe it continued to be sold in Canada until the 2011 model year.

Can confirm, they’re really nice inside. Including the back seat, which is important.

Great truck and a hell of an engine. Sold reasonably well here.

I don’t mind them, a bit dated looking for the time but they look fairly solid and well put together. I’m surprised they didn’t do real well though, I have to agree with you that poor timing played a large role in it though.

From what I’ve heard, the third row is actually usable by adults (provided the trip isn’t too long).

I think a lot of SUVs at the time looked a bit dated. Kia might have been near the top of that list with some of their styling details, however.
I believe they still sell these in Russia, but under the Mohave name.

It was probably better suited for foreign countries rather than the United States. They appear to have been going for a slightly more wealthy demographic with the Borrego and let’s be honest here, driving a “Kia” isn’t going to sit too well with all of the other soccer moms.

All very true.

I see a surprising amount of these around where I live. One orange, one grey, one black. It's a good looking truck in dark colors.

For the same price you can get a used Lexus.

You almost never see them where I live. I like it in orange. Their aren’t enough cars sold in orange (or color in general).
